What is UNESCO Global Peace Village?
Global Peace Village, or 'GPV', is a joint venture between UNESCO and Icheon city in Gyeonggi province, South Korea.
We are nestled in the Korean forest around 20 minutes from Icheon city in amongst the rice paddies. We provide education facilities, dormitories, a large cafeteria and sports areas in our center.
Our staff consists of six foreign teachers from U.S.A, Canada, England, South Africa and Australia, as well as Korean teachers and staff.

What do we teach?
At GPV, we have three theme subjects: peace, ecology and culture. These are our most important classes, but they are also supported by subjects such as World Heritage, U.N., pharmacy, grocery, recycling and cooking. All of these classes are taught entirely in English. We aim to not only teach students English, but teach them about the core, guiding principles of the U.N. in the hope of shaping tomorrow's global citizens.
Who visits us?
Our regular program consists of an elementary school in the district of Icheon city staying with us for 5 days and 4 nights before returning home. We usually receive two to three classes of students of 6th graders (12 year olds) at once, meaning between 60 and 90 students.
However, we also run special programs such as 10-day long Summer and Winter camps, 1-day Saturday programs, special holiday programs, and have recently started branching out into high school and college programs. These special programs attract students from all over Korea!

What is the 'Culture Box'?
Our 'Culture Box' project is essentially a box full of Korean culture. Each week, we make a bunch of items which represents Korean culture in the hope of teaching students from around the world about Korea.
In this time, we dedicate at least two hours to making the Culture Box; this is separated into crafts time and games time. During the craft section, we make and decorate posters, traditional fans and puzzles with Korean cultural symbols, and even make mosaics out of hanji (traditional Korean paper from mulberry trees). During games time, we research games from our partner school's country and attempt to play them (we sometimes fail) For these games activities, we love receiving input from our partner school in order to achieve a really authentic experience. We take pictures and sometimes videos of these games and put them in the box!
